I would like to find a DBase program for a PDA (ipaq5455). I would like one that i can design in access and then merge onto the PDAs for data entry (swichboards and add forms). anyone know of a good program. (I was looking for MS Access for PDA , but could not find it)?

Thanks

I personally have never came across anything, but that doesnt mean it doesnt exist.

There is no Access version for PDAs

That is not strictly true. There was Pocket Access that used to ship with CE devices but it was withdrawn by microsoft and I've been unable to find it on the web, even in the darkest nooks and crannys (thats crannys before you get excited AO)

A Lot of the Db software is compatible with access but I have yet to find a good RDBMS for the PocketPC

Thank you all, I have picked up a program (ABCDb) for the PDAs, (it only x-fers tables and we have to redo all forms and Q). If it looks to be good , i will post more info (Manuel is 222 pages Hehe)

I am in the same boat (looking for a PDA db solution to interface with an Access database) If you wouldn't mind sharing what your experience is with this db tool I would appreciate it. We are starting to look now and if we had some feedback before we get started that would be perfect!

Thanks for Sharing,
Kevin

Fizzio, you're right. That was a long time ago in the wince days. I never understood why they withdrew it since a handheld just seems like such a natural place in which to carry data. Oh wait we're talking Microsoft; so obviously the reason was $$$.

I suspect it has more to do with the huge runtime file size now required for Access

You mean it will not fit onto the HUGE 16Mb memory I have in my PDA?

16 mb? You do have a Wince machine!

I happened upon items at the palm site last night that may be of interest. Check out AppForge at the palm site or www.appfroge.com as well as the palm SDK (http://www.palmos.com/dev/tools/) for those who know and love C++. Appforge can run a pretty penny ($899) and only functions as an add in to VB6, but the SDK is free as well as the PRC tools used for compileing it. You could create a system for the PDA that could sync with an Access database, but at least these are some tools to start with.

jeremie_ingram, cool stuff there, and someone should put it together and post it here so I can use it ;) .

FYI: the original poster was asking about software for his ipaq, a non-Palm device.

Sorry, blew right by that. The appforge however can work on many platforms. Im not sure if the Ipaq is included though.

And some with a little 8Meg Visor.

I read a lot of good stuff about Dragon Forms, but haven't used it yet.

Hi

I've been working ona moblie DB for a while now using an Ipaq H5400. Basically one of the Hospitals i work with are developing a Wireless Network which i could use. This would allow me to develop a website to interact with the database rather than having to try and develop a VBE or VBC front end to a "Pocket Access" DB and then have all the issues of Memory/Synchronisation etc.

Anyway the network is not going to have total coverage for 2 years and i need a solution in a few months.

I have 2 alternatives. One(not sure this is possible) create the DB on the IPAQ and then use an offline website to input data into it. Then sychronise with main DB. The other and i guess the main point of this reply is to use a laptop.

A few positive reasons, they are so much more powerful and the interface can be alot more complex, which i think a major drawback with the VBE interfaces, + no memory problems.

The downside is the weight and cost and if you drop it an expensive crunchy mess!.

Costs aside does anyone know what the lightest laptop/tablet on the market is .

My best laptop find was X10 XTC 1300 from Samsung at 1.8 Kg that's 3.96 pounds. And the NEC Versa Litepad 1 Kg ~ 2.2 pounds.

Any ideas ?

Cheers

Chris
