Hello,

I have a simple invoice database with a primary key in the main table (with autonumber as invoice no.) and a subform with the item details which is without a primary key with the data type as numbers. In addition, I had the tables linked as one to many relationship. What happen is that when I am entering the data, the number jumps . For eg: It was suppose to be 7123 but the next entry was 7150. Pls kindly advice.

if a record is deleted the auto number wont reuse the deleted records id again.

so lets say you have records 1-5 records 6 and 7 are deleted the next auto number will still be 8.
but for such a big just like u mentioned it may be another problem. unless u have added alot of records, or maybe even if you didnt save the record added it still would have used its number when first added.
hope this helps

Autonumber

The sole purpose of the autonumber is to uniquely identify each record.
You can ad another field of the number type to your table to generate the invoice number.
Generally the DMax function is used to find the highest number in the table and increment it by one.
Do a search on this subject, there are many posts about this.
Or check the Help files for DMax.
