Large SQL table linked (1 Viewer)

I have a large sql table(6 million rows) with about 10 columns. I link the table to an ms access application. When I open the table in ms access and want to edit a column, it takes 15 seconds for it to respond and change the value. After that i can edit the values of any record and it is instant. Why does it do that on the first edit?

Likely it's pulling the whole table into Access. When working with large linked tables, you want to minimize the data that has to travel over the wire. I'd use a form that only pulled the record I wanted to edit over.
