Limit subform to one record

I have a subform with an auto number. This autonumber is linked to a text box on my main form. Is it possible to limit the subform to one record only?
If i enter data the autonumber populates the main form however if I tab over again it changes the autonumber.

The subform's table can have its own AutoNumber, but its
key should be the AutoNumber from the main table.

You don't have to display it on the subform. The
Master/Child relationships in Access can take care of
this for you.

Or, If I'm misunderstanding the question, the subform
can be fed by a query that uses the TOP 1 predicate
to only retrieve one record.
