Linked Picture shows only as an ICON

Hello, I am running Access 97 and am linking pictures. The picture displays correctly if I link a bitmap file but if I link a jpeg file it shows up as an icon. The image property is set to display contents and when I link I ensure the "show as Icon" button is not checked.
Please help! This has been bothering me for 2 years? I only found out about this site recently.

It's what I use to select and display pics on my forms and reports. Works really well.

PS: Are you using an image control or an OLE object on your forms? I gave up using OLE objects for that exact reason.
