I have an excel spreadsheet in SP, and I'm trying to create a table in Access that is linked to a tab in an excel spreadsheet (which is in SharePoint).

I am clicking the External Data > Excel (Import & Link) > copying the sharepoint path (after opening sharepoint in windows explorer) and pasting it in browse > that brings up the workbook > after selecting the workbook and clicking OK I get this error:

Only XML files can be imported from an Internet address (http://, ftp://). Enter a path that points to a location on you computer or on the network

Im almost positive ive done this before without an error, but maybe I haven't. It feels like it should be a routine action. What is the solution?

Is the Spreadsheet an actual list, or just a file in the documents bin?

im not sure what the definition of a list is... its an xlsx file that has a table in one of the tabs, which is updated regularly. does that help?

Ok, I see what you were asking.... it is not a list, it is currently document. I want to be able to make regular updates to the document so that's why it isn't a list.

The issue is you are mixing apples and oranges. Try copying the file to a LAN drive or your local drive and then link from there.
