Hi
I have a table named tblShipmaster with the following fields:_
IMO_Num ( which is the primary key)
Ship_Name
Vessel_Type
Reg_Coun
Call_sign
I have another table named tblshipvoy with the following fields:-
voy_num( the primary key field)
IMO_Num
Ship_Name
Exp_arv_date
Exp_dep_date
What I want to do is that once i enter the IMO_Num information in the tblshipvoy, all the details of the ship with the same IMO_num in the tblShipmaster are taken in the table tblshipvoy .
I have also a table that contains details of all quotations made. The quotation table named tblQuotation have the following fields:-
Quo_num(primary key field)
Voy_num (of the tblshipvoy )
Exp_arv_date ( of the tblshipvoy)
Exp_dep_date( of the tblShipvoy)
IMO_Num
Ship_Name
Vessel_Type
Reg_Coun
Call_sign
Port_disb
Mma_disb
Husbandry_disb
Other_chages_disb
This table produces a quotation taking the details from the tblShipmaster , the tblShipvoy along with the fields from the tblQuotation:-
Port_disb
Mma_disb
Husbandry_disb
Other_chages_disb
Also I will need to design a form for the quotation based on table tblQuotion. The quotes I send to the client may not be satisfactory and so may need to be revised after . All subnsequent revisions will make reference to the previous quote.
I know the tables have to be linked. I cannot conceive the relationship. Also I have to set up a form for each table , the quotation form is the focus of all , with the various versions of the quotations being visible . I do noty know how can this be handled.
I am a novice to Access , your help will be really appreciated

All you need in the tblshipvoy table is the IMO_Num. Then a query that joins the two tables on this field will make all of the fields from both table available for display without duplicating any data other than the ForeignKey. Queries with Joins are the power behind the RDBMS.

Thanks for the valauble input , I have yet to acquaint myself with queries , a hint would help
Cheers!

If you have already defined the relationship of the two tables in the Relationship screen then the query builder can create the query for you. Just include both tables and whatever fields you want. Then try it out in the Datasheet view of the query.
