Mail Merge Problem

Hi, I'm not sure if this is an Excel Problem or a Word one, however if anyone can help I'd be very grateful. I'm starting a mail merge, and trying to connect to an Excel spreadsheet (xlsm format and has a simple macro within it). I cannot connect to it as I get the error message "External table was not in the expected format." The Microsoft help article was not helpful, and I am desperate. Does anyone have any suggestions please?

Did you find the solution to this? Any other info you can add, as it works great for me.
 
I think it turned out that the file was corrupt. When I re-created it it worked fine.
