Let me start by saying i know the very basics of access. Very basics...
I work for a computer company and I would like to have a database system that keeps track of all the computers we work on.
Things I would like:
Company ID (I guess this would be the primary key)
Computer Brand
Motherboard
Sound Card
Video Card
Memory
Hard Drive Capacity
Last Repair Date
Last Repair Actions
OS Version
OS CD KEY
(other for future expansion)
I would also like a field to put in the driver location for each device. If I can convince the boss to invest, we would get a server with a very large Hard drive to install all the drivers that we need for our customers. This would save us tremendous time going to driverguide.com and hoping we had the right drivers.
I would like to develope some form of a program that will let you add, delete, and edit this information without having to edit the table directly (We did this in school but I cant remember how we did it). If things worked well, I would like to put this information on the internet behind a passworded directory so only employees could access the information. If we needed to know what sound card a machine had we could pull it up from the website rather than opening the computer and looking.
Can this be done?
Can you point me somewhere as to where I could get started on learning access? I cant afford any books or tutorials right now so im hoping someone can help me out.
Thanks!
