The realpolitik version of Maslow's hierarchy of needs: “Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.” In Maslow's hierarchy we are living in an era where all our basic needs have been met through long hard work and we are now in an era of self-actualization. Conceptually, that is good, but there is the unintended negative downside. We are now paralyzed into inaction by arguing about non-critical esoteric issues, such as the definition of "woman" instead of teaching real science. One Fox News pundit came-up with a good analogy. The US can be considered to be a "fat cow" built through hard work. Instead having strong men willing to do the work necessary to breed more cows, we now have lazy weak men who simply promote just eating the "fat cow". Why work, if you can simply live-off the fat of the land? Eventually there will be nothing left. What then? We are in a period of self-destruction. Will a "strong man" emerge to once again create good times?
