I know this is probably a very simple question but suprise suprise the help and manuals don't obviously state it!

Does anyone know the maximum number of fields allowed in a query?

Thanks

The help does tell you about it, but I guess sometimes it can be hard to find what you are looking for.
The max number of fields in a recordset of a query is 255, with a max of 32 tables.

Goto Microsoft Access Specifications in the help, you can see qry specifications from there.

Thanks very much.

Obviously couldn't find it for looking!

Hmmm, I've read that there's a maximum of 255 columns in a query. However, I can't seem to get beyond 16 columns... When I press Tab to go to the next column, it returns me to the 1st column of my query. Except for the first 5 columns, the columns are calls to modules -- which are used to count specific strings from the table and the query provides the total found.
Any help you can provide will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

Don't use TAB. Just drag and drop your columns in. If you need more columns (I am assuming you are using the QBE grid - query by example) then there is a Ribbon item - DESIGN tab, Query setup group to add more columns.
