I have a report which is basically a form letter. The text of the letter is in a memo field, which is set to "can grow". This works fine - on all pages except the first page. On the first page of the report the text displayed in the memo field is limited by the actual height of the text box. On all other pages the text displayed in the memo field expands appropriately. If anyone can help me figure out what is going on here, it would be much appreciated.

The report is set up as follows:

Group Header:

- Has bound address fields from Report's record source
- Report is grouped on MemberID field

Detail:

- Has several unbound fields whose values are set in the report's "On Print" event (fields include LetterDate, Salutation, LetterText and Signature).

- The detail section is set to "Can Grow"

- The memo field "LetterText" is set to "Can Grow"

- The "Force New Page" property is set to "After Section"

The other problem I'm having is that at the end of the report there is a blank page for every actual page (ie, if I have 90 pages of letters, there are another 90 blank pages at the end of the report.) I've tried making the report width very narrow, but this does not seem to solve the problem.

So, sometimes it helps just to write out the problem.

While I still have no idea why the above problem was happening, and wouldn't mind knowing the answer in case it comes up again, I rethought the setup and have avoided the problem entirely by creating a subreport for the body of the letter (instead of using unbound fields). Problem not quite solved, but worked around!

You actually didn't find a work-around. You found the correct way to do it. Having bound fields is the way it should be.
