I have been searching for hours and can’t find the answer. In MS Word 2010 somehow I have messed up the normal template and cannot find where to change it.
Cab anybody tell me how?

Look at this microsoft link it will explain where to find it

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/924460

The extract you will need is

User templates file location

Newly created or newly modified templates are saved in a folder in your profile directory. The folders that are under your profile contain your configuration preferences and options. These folders contain everything that is needed for a roaming user profile.

By default, user templates files are stored in the following location:
  • In Windows XP C:\Documents and Settings\ user name \Application Data\Microsoft\Templates
  • In Windows Vista or in Windows 7 C:\Users\ user name \AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Templates
Note You can change the location of user templates files.

Thanks for the comback. I found the normal template but I can save any changes. My problem is no mater what I do I can not have a space at the top of the document. A new document always has the cursor the very top of the page.

It sounds as though you have a view which is hiding the top margin.

As a suggestion place the mouse at the top of the page where you see the ruler and the beginning of the page, the mouse should turn into a double headed arrow, once it does simply double click and the margins will re appear.

I have jsut replicated this several times.

Look at this image.

That did it Trevor, Thanks. Things like this just solidifies my love / hate affair with Microsoft and computers in general. How does one even start to find anything in a help menu for a problem like this?
