Hi,
I'm a university faculty member in the field of entomology (that bugs...). I have been using Access since 1996 for personal management of the data associated with my academic research projects (particularly for management of the data behind the web-based Lacewing Digital Library project). I started out years ago with Access 97 (or maybe it was the version before that ...) and have migrated forward with Access over the years. My database has grown over the years to a couple hundred tables and a couple thousand queries (some of which could likely be purged, if I had the time...). I use my personal Access database almost daily as my primarily research data capture and management tool. I have become pretty well versed in most of the Access basics, but I have not delved too deeply into the possibilities of hard-core Access programming. I've done a bit with Visual Basic, but nothing very sophisticated. Generally, I prefer to keep things pretty simple and straightforward, since I do all of my own database development and maintenance work. That said, I do find it to be an interesting and satisfying intellectual challenge to learn how to manipulate data within the Access environment and to use it to produce outputs useful for my research. I have found posts on the forums here to be helpful on a number of occasions in the past. By joining the forum now I hope to be able to gradually extend my programming abilities, particularly with Visual Basic, as I continue to discover that it would be useful to incorporate more complex programming into some parts of my database.
