Hi

I have a MySQL DB hosted on Hostgator. I would like to manage the data via MS Access 2010 (32bit) on my Windows 7 (64bit) SP1 machine - as I am reasonably familiar with MS Access forms and queries.

Given my issues below - is MS Access a reasonably front end for MySQL or should I be looking at a dedicated MySQL front end - if so can someone recommend one that will have an interface that has some similarities to MS Access, inc QBE if possible?

I am connecting to one table with 600 records - nearly all are text fields.

Note I have spent a lot of time searching for solutions but decided it is time to put them all in one thread.

ISSUES
1
The ODBC connection will not save -the data source name is greyed out, so I have to enter User and Pwd each time I connect, which is frequently due to issues below.

2
I can add new records and return to edit some fields, with some records I can edit any field multiple times , with others I get a 'write conflict' popup telling me that "the record has been changed by another user" - it has not.

3
If Access is idle for more than about 60 seconds I get a 'OBDC Failed Pop up' telling me MySql server has gone away (#2006)

Then I need to close the DB and re-open

4
If I do a search (via a form or the search box at bottom of table) after 3 letters the search starts and always hangs "(not Responding)

Basically my installation of MS Access is useless for my connection to my MySQL DB, I trust someone will be able to give me some guidance to fix these issues.

Still keen to get some advice on this if anyone can help me
