No text showing in vertical labels on report

I have a report that has vertical labels. In the properties the labels all have captions, these captions are not showing up on the actual report. The labels look like they have no text in them.
I copied this database from another computer and you can see the captions on that computer. Has anyone come across this before?

I have come across the answer on another site, if anyone has this issue just change the font on the labels to 'Ariel CYR' this seems to work but I can't tell you why....
