(Yes, after several drinks too many, another anti US spiell)

Intersting that George W was quite happy to manufacture evidence that Iraq had WMD, while North Korea not only quite hapilly admitted it had them, what's more, they were quite happy to use them!

GWB invated Iraq, ignored North Korea (they couldn't beat them in the '50's, why try again)

So what will golden boy Obama do?

Probably, more importantly, what will the rest of us do to make the United Nations actually mean something?

The US has traditionally treated the United Nations as a vehicle to promote US policy -now that US stocks are so low in the rest of the world, who's going to drive this thing? Or do 'we' (western hemisphere) all give up and leave it to the Chinese & Indians?

Now there's some thought for some indigestion

We, (the west) have no right to dictate to anyone that it is bad for them to have nuclear weapons when we (the west) have thousands of them.

Yes, we have got rid of a few, but that means we only have enough to destroy the world a couple of times.
It's like having a bag of frozen peas and removing 20 or so, then saying I've cut back on peas.

Remind me again which country has used nuclear weapons in anger against another race.

The plan was alphabetical, don't you see? Afghanistan, Iraq, N. Korea was going to be next, but they didn't quite get there before Bush's term was up.

Bush invaded Pakistan before he left office... he just doesn't know his ABC's

North Korea has informed the US that any attempt to board their ships in international waters will be responded to by a nuke. North Korea doesn't have any ships. They have about twenty PT boats. That's their Navy. They don't have a merchant navy.

North Korea now has nukes and rockets to lauch them. As the only country they may wish to pick a war with is South Korea and as South Korea is allied with the US and as North Korea is totally dependent on China for their basic survival and as China has no wish to go to war with the US...are you seeing the picture here.

North Korea should be treated like any other bratty child throwing a tantrum. Just ignore them.

Given the above, I think it quite likely that China will be the country to invade North Korea.

The moment N Korea does something to really insult China, I think there will be what we sometimes call a "Come-to-Jesus" meeting between the two. As in, "After we helped you so much back in the 1950s, you wanna do this kind of stuff to us? You're on your own, Bubba!"

We tried something like this before. It was called appeasement. That didn't turn out so well.

If I saw a bratty child building a nuclear weapon, I think I would have to do something about it. Building a nuclear weapon is not quite the same as a tantrum.

Thank you, Rich, for your ever so useful contribution to this thread. :P

I don't expect or need accolades for correcting errors in posts thanks

There is a world of difference between building a nuke and using it. Not even the Kim cadre in North Korea is that dumb as they know the reaction of the US will be to turn North Korea into a glazed radioactive wasteland.

North Korea is quite likely the most backward country in Asia. Their standard of living is non existent, the country is constantly tettering on the brink of starvation and the powers that be have everyone convinced the US and South Korea are massed for an invasion (that hasn't happened for 57 years). Yet they have gone out and built a nuke.

Makes our Western governments look almost competent.

The trouble is, nobody in North Korea knows this, they have been entirely brainwashed that 'all is right with the world'

There is as much starvation in India and few seem to be trying to get them to reconsider, or Israel for that matter

The only way to prevent nukes from going off is to prevent them from being built, especially by countries that are so unstable.

Substitute "North Korea" for "the USA" and you have an accurate statement.

That's exactly why the US should not have them.

Another extremely useful post. Thank you, Col. Once again you have contributed another very useful point.

Yes, indeed. In a country where a moron/maniac like Rush Limbaugh can attain near-godlike status among the Republican Party, who are we to dictate anything? Our country is in the sh*tt*r...:(

Notice that Rush Limbaugh has never stood for public office. People like listening to his tirades but nobody would vote him in as dogcatcher.

Actually, NO ONE should have them. But the genie's out of the bottle.

North Korea test launched seven missiles today. It's the 4th of July. Coincidence?
