In the past few months I have been busy with transferring most of my favourite LP’s to CD. During this , I came across some pretty good music that I still enjoy listening to after all these years and some of them really bring in precious memories. Some vinyl I particularly like are :

Vanilla Fudge - Album Vanilla Fudge
Jan Akkerman - Album Tabernakel
Respighi - Album the Fountains of Rome ( Berlin Philharmonic with Von Karajan)
Fungus - Album Fungus
Zappa - Album Illegal bootleg from somewhere in 1974
Tony Williams Lifetime - Album Emergency

I reckon that most of the LP’s can be purchased on CD today, but while going thru hours of recording to CD myself I found a lot of treasure in listening to most of the recorded vinyl tracks.

Anyone out there with the same experience, you’d like to share.

Cheers, Ron

My wife inherited a large collection of Deutche Gramaphone classical music when her mother passed away.
The problem is, they're 78's (known in the music trade as dodos).
Have you tried to find a turntable that will play 78's? They no longer exist. I went to our local classical station and told them they could have the records in exchange for cassette or CD copies. Even they don't have a 78 turntable.

Hey Statsman,

Do a google for Lenco L75 ( old type) or Stanton T80. The last one was recently renewed and does play 78 rpm.

Succes.

Ah, Vanilla Fudge. Their cover of You Keep Me Hanging On is definitely better than the original.

I'm actually going the opposite way -- the record store to me is my addiction. Since I've reduced my budget due to the new house, my vinyl collection has been about the same and I have to really struggle to not walk into the record store.

I still haven't hooked up my turntable/stereo since the move, and I'd better do it soon. :)

Exactly, we played that track so many times, that I had to buy the album twice :)

Nowaday's it's difficult to get some good vinyl. I bought some new albums last year ( mainly classical music on DGG), but even these series seems to be less ( sound quality) then say 20 years ago.

I just really like the warm sound that comes from playing vinyl.

I've only purchased a few new albums on vinyl in the past year, so I can't really comment on the difference. For me, it's a more interactive listening experience, since you can't just hit play and leave it for an hour. *shrugs*
