I have read the procedure for opening an Access 2010 table exclusively and seen what the Access Open screen is suppose to look like, but I don't have such a screen. When I clike on "OPEN" in the FILE column I get a regulare Windows Open screen which does not have the opportunity to choose "open exclusive". Why doesn't my Access 2010 have that OPEN window available?

thanks for anyone's help

In the Open dialog box, when you click once on the name of the database to open it, the bottom right-hand corner should have two buttons: "Open" and "Cancel." The right-hand side of the "Open" button should have a down arrow that you can click to view additional Open options, one of which should be "Open Exclusive." Can you confirm that you are trying these steps?

Yes. Ok, I see what I was doing wrong, I need to simply point the mouse to the table I want to open and not click on it. then the "Open" box is brightened and allows me to click on the down arrow to be able to select "Open Exclusive". The procedure never says not to actually click on the table I want, but to simply point to it. Sorry for bothering you, but appreciate your response.

Now I have the problem in reverse. I can't simply highlight the table (db) I want to open in order to get the "Open" button to light up so that I can click on the arrow. Instead, I have to actually click on the db I want, then it asks for the password. Once opened I can't decrypt the db, because I didn't enter it properly. Really need help.

thanks

No bother at all, glad to help.

What version of Access are you using? Are these linked tables?

Access 2010, ver 14.0.6112.500 32 bit. It is a single table that has 3 query and 3 forms. I found I could finally open exclusive again by pointing to the DB and right clicking the mouse, then click on "Select". That brightened the OPEN button with the arrow. At least it is a work-around, but seems awkward. There is still the question of why doesn't the appropriate "Access Open" window open up rather than the Window Open window.

I think we need to clarify some terminology. A table will not contain a query or a form. A table is an object in a database, just like a query, form, module and macro.

So, is it a database with 1 table, 3 queries and 3 forms? You don't need to right-click to Select, you can just as easily click once to highlight.

Someone else correct me if I'm wrong, but you really don't need to open a properly deployed database exclusively all that often, which is probably why Access doesn't default to opening one exclusively.
