I need to combine two fields into one simple count query and I just cannot figure it out.

I have two fields: Merch and Merch2

Here is some example data and the result it should show:

Merch ------ Merch2
Vacuum ------ Gift Card
TV
Gift Card ----- Phone Card
Gift Card ----- Phone Card
Phone Card ----- Vacuum
Gift Card ----- TV

(sorry for the lines, the formatting is messing things up)

There will always be data in the Merch field, but not always in the Merch2 field.

The query result should look like this:

Gift Card ----- 4
Phone Card --- 3
Vacuum ------- 2
TV ----------- 2

Any help you can provide would be appreciated

You can build a Totals Query based on a Union Query.

Run the second query in the attached database, which contains your sample data.

Thanks!

Thanks Jon K!

It worked great. I found I had to tweak it a little to get the results I needed becuase of other fields I did not include impacting it, but what you put together worked great.
