Ok... I'm stumpted. This is driving me crazy.
All users are using Access 2003. Some users have Excel 2003 and some have Excel 2007.
I have a parent-form that has a subform that needs records to be manually pasted into it from Excel. To accomplish this, I have a button on the parent-form that toggles the subform view from "Continuous Forms" to "Datasheet". The reason is that I have better luck pasting into the "Datasheet" view.
1) So, the user opens the database.
2) The parent-form opens up and the subform is in "Continuous Form".
3) They prepare the data they need to import in Excel.
4) They press the "Toggle Form" button that switches the subform to "Datasheet".
5) They paste in the new records. They APPEAR. They are assigned auto-UniqueIDs. All looks good.
6) The user presses the "Toggle Form" button once again and, sure enough, the records are still there! Again, all appears well with the world.
7) The user closes the database.
8) The user opens up the database and... the records are gone! Even weirder, if new records are added the auto-UniqueIDs that were used in the last session are skipped; to me, that means Access did recognize that at least at some point there were new records.
For what it's worth, when the user pastes the records straight into the table, no forms used at all, it works just fine. No problems at all.
Please, please don't let this thread turn into a "why are you coping and pasting from Excel" thread as I don't want the root of my question to be lost. Just trust me that in this case it's far easier for my users to bring in this data by coping and pasting from Excel. I don't intend to change that aspect of the tool.
That's what I'm up against. How could it be that records appended into a form don't stay! Arrgg....
If anyone can provide any tips on this one, as always, I'd really appreciate it.
Thank you.
