People names one or two fields?

Is it generally better to store person names as one field (first and last) or two fields; one for first name and one for last name?

Is the question worth answering or should it be obvious to me?

a little obvious, but I still do things wrong that are very obvious when someone else comments.

if you store it just in one field how are you going to stort based on last name?
You would cause more aggravation later on for yourself.

I would encourage to split up information more often then not in situations similar to this.

Split it up as much as you might want to do a sort/search/group/etc

FName, LName, MInit, Suffix, Prefix

formating in report will be a lot easier when you have the flexability in organizing your names any way you wish.

That's kind of what I thought. Most things I have done with names I have used two fields. Suprisingly have done many projects where there where no person name fields.

What got me wondering was when I had to concatenate the two fields for making reports etcetera.

Just wondered what comments might result from the question.
