Populating a text box in a seperate form

Hi,
I'm trying to open a form use a command button. I open the other form using the DoComd method and then I have it go to a New Record. My problem is that I can't figure out how to get an id box to be populated with the id value on my parent form. I can open up a form on a record that already exists, I just can't open it on a new record and still have the id number transfer. Thank you for any help and feel free to ask for any more information if needed. Thank you again.
