Project Question

Wondering if I could get any help from anyone familiar with a similar application. I need to use a form that I can use in hand-held scanner that enables the user to scan an object at a remote site and all the info related to that item would flash up. Also, if it would allow input by cartons, pallets, pieces on hand to take an inventory or allow the user to enter an amount to order.

I am totally new to this side of applications and need to catch up fast so any input would be helpful. All I know now is that Symbol makes a scanner that talks to Access but I don't know what else I need to make it work.
