Record set based on security login

In over my head

I need to restrict what records certain users get to see. Each manager is allowed to see all the records of the people below them (regardless of department) and their own info, but they are not allowed to see the info on the other managers. Can I reference the user security information (log on & password) to do this? I have an idea in my head on how I think it would work, but my coding ability is not great. How do I reference that file? Anybody got a sample I could steal...errr I mean study? Or somewhere I could read up on this type thing?

I've got that file already, must have missed the part I'm looking for. Will read it again, but if anyone else can offer opinions (or a confirmation that what I'm asking is in the file), I'd appreciate it.
