report help

I am used to using better reporting tools like Cognos or BO. How can I easily insert sums and percent of totals in reports based on groupings? Everytime I try to place in a function I get the parameter box to pop-up?

if you have a text box in the group named MyTextBox, you would create a text box in the group footer with =Sum(MyTextBox)
