Report wizard fields disappear

I am creating a new report using the report wizard. I select a particular query. The fields appear for a second, then disappear. So I cannot select any fields. All other queries look OK in the wizard.
Any ideas? I just added a date parameter to the query in question, but it runs fine.

I have narrowed down the problem to a linked query. I remove the linked query and the field list appears in the report design wizard. Add the linked query (query runs fine), and the fields appear for a second in report wizard, then disappear! No error message or anything.
