Jriano,

Tell me about it... I am trying to learn via reading plus I have been landed with a number of access databases at work!!! What are you reading, is it any help ?? I have to say the most I have learnt is by trail and error

Good Luck !

Same thing here. I have to do some changes to a database at work, I have programming background, but had never learned db. I am reading books, the more I read, the more unanswered questions I have, the most lost I feel

Your best bet is to do a combination of reading, course work, browsing the Access boards, and asking questions.

There are no shortcuts. Access is a very deep program that, because of its flexibility, seems unapproachable at the start. Just keep at it.

Look at sample databases, esp. the ones from Microsoft that come with Access and the ones you can download off the Microsoft web site. They will give you some good ideas as to what is possible.

What books are you using?
A good basic introduction I think is the "new Perspective" series...takes you through hands - on.
Doesn't delve a lot into programming piece I don't think, but worth it to just go through and do the projects as a beginning point.
You can probably find them very inexpensive at half.com.
Thomson Learning/New Perspectives on Microsoft Access 2000
Look for the "comprehensive" one.
ISBN 0-7600-7090-3

ETA: There is a chapter on macros, and one on visual basic - introductions to them.

You may also want to have a look at this thread where there are some useful links to tutorials to read up on.

also don't be afraid to post questions on these forums. The users here don't mind answering very basic questions - we were all beginners once;)

Its better to get it right first time if you can rather than have to make huge changes later.
