I have been posting here and there but anyone who wants my advice, comments, or silliness will have to wait. (I know I have some followers, thanks folks.)

Wifey just had a knee replacement surgery Tuesday and ever since then I've been a gopher. Go for this, go for that. She's doing fine, no complications, and she is up and around on a walker, but my time is not my own for a couple of weeks. The surgeon thinks she'll be off the walker by the 31st give or take a day. Any time I can put in on the forum right now is when she's napping at odd and totally unpredictable hours.

This was one of the "new" surgeries where they don't have this huge metal hinged monster implant. Instead, they do a test (which she passed) for the possibility of essentially "recapping" the bone on the tibia and thigh bone, and work some kind of "magic" with a hinge to replace the kneecap. Though it counts as "knee replacement" it is not considered a radical surgery.

According to the orthopedic surgeon, she had bone-on-bone and both her meniscus and bursa were fragmented. Now she has smooth-surface joints, no bone spurs, and a joint fix that should last longer than she will. Gotta say that is a LOT better than what HER mother went through with TWO knee replacements (not simultaneously) and two shoulder (rotator cuff) jobs. Miracles of modern medicine!

All the best from me to her with wishes for a speedy recovery.
Don't pander too much - it has a way of becoming permanent!

Your priorities are correct; she's more important than us. Best wishes to her and extra strength to you!

She's doing fine. Surgery was Tuesday the 18th and she's already cutting back on the pain pills. She says the pain is now more like muscle cramps and stretches, mostly because the leg has been under utilized. She's to the point that I'm thinking about getting a child's bicycle bell for her walker so she can warn me when she's coming.

Update: Wifey is up and about, using a cane, and has pretty much abandoned her two-wheel walker. She uses the rollator-type walker (four wheels and a seat) only because it lets her carry things too big to carry while using a cane. Her recovery has been nothing short of amazing, but part of that is that the new surgery techniques were less disruptive than the old hinged appliance.

Thanks to some carpentry work, I might be off the air for a day or two while some contractors repair some wood around the window in my office. But that is not a big deal. My computer will just be physically inaccessible for a while.

Excellent news Doc. The results of surgery are always a bit unpredictable so I am pleased things seem to have gone well. And you can't beat the modern medical tech.

Hey Richard,

have you ever heard Steve Martin's ""4 fu**ing wheels and a seat"" rant from the movie ""Planes, Trains and Automobiles""? LOL. Check this out (beware, it is NOT censored, which surprises me!):

Glad to hear your wife is doing well. Wish her the best for me. :)

AB, we rented one of those when my wife had foot surgery for a torn plantar fascia. She hated it so much she turned it in after only two months. Totally not maneuverable and impossible to adjust to be comfortable for her height.

I don't know why you can't get sound on it. Did you go to the youtube page and watch it there, or did you try to play the embedded video in this thread? The API code and/or link sometimes is unreliable. But regardless, try going to this link (skipped to the good part):

Turns out something is off with my speakers, possibly caused by the construction stretching a wire or something equally ugly. Still testing. Doesn't SEEM to be power but it is hard to tell yet.

Darn, back on restricted availability. Wifey's knee got infected. She's back in the hospital with IV antibiotics. The infection specialist thinks this will be knocked down in a couple of days and completely clear in a couple of weeks, but I'm back to the roles of "go-fer" and chauffer instead of being a loafer.
