Security on subforms

I have a db that is set up on workgroup security. The database opens to a main form with tabs and subforms, which reflects project data. I set a number of users to Read Only, but when I log on as a read-only user, none of the subforms are visible. The datasheet subs are empty and the form subs are white blocks.

Is this a property of the form or the permissions? How can I make all aspects of the form visible, just restrict the data within them?

Now this is just a guess.

Can´t you set a form to allow editions (editions to the underlying table I mean). If so, maybe access blanks them out when a read only user log in (otherwize making it possible to edit for a read only user).

As I said, just guessing...
