i hate that bleepin wizard! thank god i backed up my db just before i ran it! it went all screwy on me! like everthing always does!

i simply want to create user names and passwords for each user.

i need to have 1 group(doctors without permission for electronic prescribing from the scottish office) only allowed to open ARTscript(which is a form where they perscribe drugs) and the other basic forms

i need to have the 2nd group(docs/consultants who do have permission) allowed to open all the forms.

i need to have the 3rd group(nurses) that would be allowed to go into only the travel clinic related forms not the drug prescribing ones.

i did try this using the wizard but i really dont know what went wrong, like i said it simply went all screwy.
any help would be so so so so so so so so so so great!

Hi Lyns

Oh I remember the time I used the wizard to do just that only to find I was locked out the db or at least I thought I was. Little did I know that access had automatically put a little shortcut on my desktop (this would now have to be opened from here from now on) Did you check to see if you had a short cut on your desktop? You can assign permissions to your groups by going into the security menu. I'll tell you what I annoyed everyone with a long winded post on this some time ago I'll find it for you it could prove useful for you to read through my mistakes hows that?

sounds good honey! i searched for security but didnt see anything except use the wizard bla bla bla.

Yes I got your email, very good liked it!! Hope you weren't suggesting that pic looks like me!!

I got the email too Lyns - thanks

I have to say your looks have gone downhill since the last pic you sent me ! (only joking)

oh no!:D

whoops!
right i thought ok so ill try some of this out on a test db for cds or something first just so i didnt fu** up the important one!

well what i have done i really do not know! as it has set up secuirity for my db! too in fact for all db opened on my machine!

i deleted all that i thought i should just to get everything back to the state it was in before but it cant open anything now! i think i need to re install something form the access disc but why did it do that in the first place???

im sorry:(

thanx.....

i have been working on it and managed to solve it!
i opened the db and got the error message and it asked if i wanted to repair it so i said yes and put the access disc in and then i went into the db and added the level of user and their permissions again and its all ok!

wheehew!:D :p

this security thing is really a pain eh! think im gonna wimp out and just try having a table with usernames and passwords then make my splash screen a form with only the facility to enter the user name and password! at least i can keep a track of who is in the db then!i hope!

good luck with your security problem... :D
Thanx, Lyns.

You must be able to read my mind. As "security" wasn't a great issue in my case I built a log on screen as a replacement for the switchboard. So when someone logged on it took them to the forms etc that they use most.
(Well done with the security bizzo)
Dave.
