I have a tblClub with only three Columns ID,Name & Number. (Col 0,1 & 2?) I only need to store the Number (Col2) in a separate tblMembers.
I've created a Combo on the tblMembers Input Form. I would like the Combo to display Name & Number (Col 1&2), but only save Col2 (Bound) to the tblMembers.
I've created a query (qCombo) which picks up Col 1& 2, and added a third qcolumn which concatenates 1&2 ready to display in the Combo.
When I open the Combo I see my query correctly displaying Name & No., & it remains visible when I exit, but it is saving the combined field to the tblContacts rather than just the No.
How do I get it to Save just Col2 frrom tblClub or Col1 from the qCombo i.e. just the Number from Col2 of tblClub whilst still displaying the concatenation in the Combo on the Form ?
Is it absolutely necessary to have the qCombo as an intermediary from the Table to the Combo ?
I guess I'm mixing up my Properties between the three, I think I've tried every combination, but haven't found the right one yet !
Thanks for Looking.
Regards

It is not necessary to populate your Combo with your query qCombo. Another way to do this is to use the table to populate your Combo, by following the Bouncing Ball in the Combo Box wizard. Then open the underlying Row Source in Design view, and edit it to produce the concatenated results you are after.

As for which column to save simply enter the column number in the Bound Column field of the Data tab;

Now just to add a little confusion this field does not deal with the columns as zero indexed as you would normally expect :rolleyes: for the purposes of this property the columns are numbered from One on up.

Hi John, Thank you for your help. I got so frustrated trying to get this to work properly, I deleted the old combo and re-created it using the wizard, and it now works fine. I've been able to do away with the query in-between. The wizard actually uses the ID field as the bound field, rather than the number itself, but that works fine (as long as I remember that this is what it has done !)
