Hi

My data base takes information from several healthcare agencies where patients have been treated for various lenghts of time, for different types of treatment.

Clients are triaged (/ assessed) when they first present to the agency, and the inital referral and discharge dates can be different to the length of time they spent in treatment. Further more it is possible that the patient was triaged and discharched without being seen, as they may have been referred on after the agency was still in contact with the patient for some time.

..Awake still?... Good!

For performance management reasons a 'treatment journey' is one where the client has presented at several different agencies, was not necessarily treated at all of them but either the treatment start date for one agency was within 21 days (or overlapped). I would like to output information on treatment journeys such as total number, the lengths of these and final outcome etc.

Is there any way of doing this on access? I have tried on a spreadsheet, which kind of works but I would prefer to use a database as excel keeps crashes under the sheer volume of calculations I am asking it to do (and then pivot!!)

Any help appreciated :)

Thanks

Erica

The short answer is yes it is, but really you'd need to supply more detailed information but at the moment it looks like you have several basic entities:

The patient
The agency
The Appointments
and possibly treatments.

A patient may have one or more appointments with one or more agencies.
A patient may have one or more treatments from one or more agencies.

At a basic level that would appear to start defining how your database might work and would potentially provide the information that you need.

Hi Nellie

Yes nearly.. You have the basic entities
Patient
Agency (which I am not too worried about keeping in the calculations)

Time spent at the agency: triage(first appointment) to discharge
Treatments during that time at the agency: treatment start, treatment finish for each type of treatment

Clients can have any number of treatments which can overlap each other at various agencies.

Thanks
