When I do an insert from Access of a value containing the section/subsection symbol §, Sharepoint single-line-of-text column converts it to seemingly random other symbols, like these:
º
Æ
û

In my Access table, it is § but when inserted via Insert Query to Sharepoint custom list single-line-of-text field,
Anyone else have this behavior?

Just curious, if you link Access to the SharePoint List and view the data from SharePoint in Access, is the section/subsection character still wrong?

Yes, it shows the weird substitutes instead of the §

Can you manually enter the subsection symbol in SharePoint using the browser? If you can, what does it look like in Access?

I just got the list in edit (datasheet) mode in SP online, and added the §. It "took". I then viewed the record in the Access database (SP linked), and it did indeed still show me the § mode. Like it totally worked fine in that case.
Somehow the Access insert query seems to the point of failure.

I'm going to run an update to correct it and see what happens.

Okay, sounds like you have a plan. Good luck!

Glad to report the update took. I did a replace(field, chr(#),chr(#)) type of thing and everything is good now.
Weird

Nice going. I'm sure this will help others in the future as well. Cheers!

Ooh - your reply made me decide to add this on for good measure, in case someone searches for it later -

Original problem occurred also when originally inserting into sharepoint two other things:
- the "long dash" (like Word makes when you type dash and then space): chr(150)
- the slanted apostrophe / single quote: chr(146)

FYI to future-comers.
