A problem I have seen a couple times has come up again... Wondering if anyone knows why this happens?
This is always with a split DB.... Using "Remote Access"..... The user signs on, a shortcut to the Frontend of the application is there...... But when clicked... nothing.
I personally did not load this one onto the clients server, but I believe the administrator has done this to use a bit of group security abilities. I think he has put the Frontend in their "Documents" folder and then puts a shortcut to the frontend on their remote desktop (Server)....... But time after time it loses the path to the frontend....or maybe doesn't recognize that it is an mdb file....Not sure. Anyone had this come up before??

For a shortcut if something it is referring to is moved then the target has to be re-entered and applied. The start search in: section needs to be set to the folder where the FE was moved to.

Examples:
Start in: "C:\Documents and Settings\UserID\My Documents\FrontEnd Folder\"

For a FE with User Level Security you need a shortcut that addresses
1) MS Office Access
2) the Front End of the database
3) the workgroup file created by the User Level Security Wizard

Target: "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11\MSACCESS.EXE" "C:\Documents and Settings\UserID\My Documents\FrontEnd Folder\existingDatabase.mdb" /WRKGRP "H:\sharedLANdrive\where\workgroupfile\is\kept\myworkgroupfile.mdw"

For Access 2007 change to OFFICE12. Don't forget the " and the spacing.
Put the mapped LAN drive directory in place of the H:\..... stuff or where ever the workgroupfile is.

Sorry Keith,

I'm interested in gettin the info if you have it.

When you open the file you should receive a prompt asking if you want to enable macros. Press the enable macro button and the document should open up with a user form. I just download the file and test to make sure it was working. You may need to change you macro security level in Ms Word.

Changed the Macro Security Settings and Voila! Thanks Keith

And I like the form but I wan't sure where to get the shortcut icon so I left it blank. Then when the shortcut was created I was able to Change Icon...

Cheers!

OK, not sure we're on the same page, so let me clarify. I do not believe the backend or frontend has been moved. The DB itself does not have any security features. Any security would be on workgroups on the server.I also noticed that your example paths contain the drive letters (server) I can't remember where at the moment, but I know I have read in different places NOT to use drive letter when using "linked table manager" to conect FE..BE... But to always use "My Network Places"
Now the way I explained how to set this up is this.....(and I haven't had any trouble with this method) But I told them to first..... Create a file on the server...ie... AccessData... in this folder place the frontend file and backend file. Open the frontend and run linked table manager... use "My Network Places" and follow the path to the backend. Once this is done you can simply copy and paste the frontend to any computer connected to your network, the path should already be correct.
I've done this with many DB's with no problem..... Have I just been lucky? Or is this not the best method?
