Hi,

I have an Access Frontend, connected to a SQL database with tables views etc, currently a user can access all data that the database contains, I would like to restrict them from being able to do this.

Now I have recently created a restriction using Active Directory groups and dates on the data, so certain groups can only see data from todays date - x days, admins can see all data etc.

However a user can still go to the Objects form (which is minimised on loading Access) but is still easy to find, click tables, and then open any table they want and see all the data.

I was wondering if there was a way to restrict users from seeing these tables, or a way that these tables only load data according to the active directory group, so all data from today - x days.

I am using Access 2000 and unfortunatley am unable to use another version.

Hope this makes sense, and look forward to your replies.

Peter

Did you hide the database?
Then the users can't see the tables, queries, etc.

I have a form as a switchboard, when I use the hide database option it still loads.

The only way to hide the database I have found so far is to unselect the "Display Form/Page" to (none) then untick hide database.

Doing this though means nothing loads at startup, where I would want my switchboard to load.

Is there a way around that?

If you create an MDE , and put them on Access runtime I believe you can't get to the tables at all. This may assist you in moving forwards from Access 2000 as well.
You can buy one licence for Access 2010/13/16 and develop in that and simply distribute the latest runtime and an .mde / .accde . No need for expensive end user Access licences.

MS SQL Server database support fine grained security on tables and even individual fields using AD groups.
