Subform entry problem

I am using a tab control with subforms. Because a subform has so many fields and I wanted to be able to see the tabs, I broke it in half and have subfrmPostopP1 and subfrmPostopP2, each on a tab. The parent and child fields link by Pat_ID2 to the master form Preop. Problem is every time I enter subfrmPostopP2, then finish and try to go to the next form or exit that form, I get an error stating that I have caused a duplicate in the primary key or index. Can anyone suggest a way to correct this?
