I have placed a subform on my switchboard to show when a particular piece of equipment is needing calibration. The subform is a form based on a query. I have two columns that show out for repair or out for calibration and they have a checkbox to indicate the status. My thought was to be able to edit the checkbox from the switchboard when I send out a piece of equipment. When I open the form within Access I can edit this form, but the subform on the switchboard I can not edit. Is there a way to change this? I have looked through all of the properties, but perhaps I simply missed one, or this can not be done. Any help is appreciated.

A Switchboard is actually simply an Access form. Since they're not intended to be used for data entry, the AllowAdditions/AllowEdits/AllowDeletions properties are set to No by default. The trick here, is that a subform is actually a control on the main form, and so "inherits" all of these property settings from the main form, in this case the Switchboard. If AllowEdits is set to No on the main form, the subform will be uneditable, regardless of how it is set in the form the subform is based on!

So go into Design View for your Switchboaard and change these property settings to Yes. BTW, be sure to leave Data Entry set to No.

Thanks, that got it. I looked at both of those settings on each of the forms, but I didn't change one of the settings so it wasn't working. Now it is. Thanks for the assist.
