sums in report/subreport

Hi; hope someone can help with the following problem in Ac 2003.
I have a report/subreport, used as an invoice. The subreport contains itemized bill lines, which include [charge] for each line. I’m trying to show the sum of the charges on the subreport in a control on the main report, which I’ve tried to do in the following manner:
I’ve added a control to the subreport [Chargesum] with visible = false and runningSum property set to ‘Over All’.
I then added a control in the subreport footer [TotalCharges] whose Control Source = Chargesum.
To then show the value of [TotalCharges] on my Main report, I have a control on the report
[AmountOwed], whose control source = [Subform name].Report![TotalCharges].

The problem that I’m having is that, although The value present in the [TotalCharges] control seems to be the correct ‘running sum’ value for the charge amount, the control on my main report shows only the charged amount present in the VERY FIRST line of my itemized bill! It doesn’t show the sum at all!

It's =Sum([YourField]) in a textbox in the subReport Footer, you then refer to that textbox on the Main Report
