Is there a way to draw a table with individual cells in like (like an excel spreadsheet)?

I have to print a timetable with around 20 rows and 7 columns and if I have to draw 140 text boxes I'll go mad.

In each box will be an event name (in text) happening in that days column at that row's time. It will probably be several lines of small text.

Something like this?

and in design view....

Well I only had 100 boxes to 'draw' so I only went partly mad....:D

The answer I'm getting around to is ... I don't think so .. or if there is I wasted a lot of time

However there is such a thing as copy & paste ;)
I drew one & copied it in batches

Thats pretty muc it. Thanks colin! Did you populate them manually as an example or do it through code?

Haha ....
Through very complex code.

Well, that's the first hurdle overcome of many!

My appointments lengths vary and they can start on a quarter hour. Somehow I have to translate a start time and duration into a size and position on the timetable.

Still, one step at a time....

I've done that as well but its equally complex
Would you like to buy my db? :):D

Although I didn't use it, you might find Flexgrid useful.
However it only works in 32 bit Access

Now, I appreciate your offer but sadly I'm doing this for my local NHS rehab unit so there's no budget.

To be honest, although I'm a whizz at excel (with help from the forums!) I'm an Access novice and I think this will be waaaay beyond me.... but I like to learn.

Does it need to be an access report? Could it be data exported to excel? I could see this being done in vba

Also, Just a thought but continuous forms/reports just need the column count defined, the size of the recordset will define the rows. Let me know , your project sounds fun!

Well, I wrote a scorching workbook that fulfilled all their requirements. Sadly I made a schoolboy error and didn't check how they would use it. It turned out they all wanted to keep it open most of the time and I was advised that this level of simultaneous use on a network would make it unreliable so I had to give up on that. A painful lesson.

So, I can certainly represent the data as needed in excel.

What's stopped me from this up to now is the need to make it easily usable. Any solution would have to be set up so the user can just click on a button in access and everything happen automatically. They won't be able to manually export into excel and run the workbook separately. Probably a bit inconvenient for a busy therapist too.

If you think that's doable I'd definitely like to explore it.

So can you instal sql server express? If so the you can use ado record sets to do this

You could still use ado connection to the access database...

I think probably not.... partly because my knowledge doesn't extend to understanding a lot of the words you used and partly because I have no access or influence over the hospital's IT department.

I've essentially got to give the senior therapist a file or files she can put on the server and/or her local pcs to run.

To be honest, even splitting it into front end and back end and have them stored in different places on the server is going to be a trial.... :banghead:

There is a hotel bookings database and a Calendar data base for free that I think will help you. Look at the free tutorials on accessallinone.com
