I have a form - frmOrders - which I wish to use to place orders with our suppliers. On this form I have a pair of linked combo boxes. The first gets its data from a query based on a Product Category table. This selects a particular product category. Then a supplier name is selected from a second combo box, the contents of which are limited by which ever product category has been selected in the first combo box via a requery.
My problem is that this arrangement only seems to work if the control sources of these two combo boxes are set to their respective fields. The selected supplier does not remain in the record if the SupplierName combo box is unbound. Only the most recently selected SupplierName is displayed. I appear to have to have these fields (ProductCategory and SupplierName) in the underlying table, whereas I was under the impression that this data should not ideally be duplicated and it should only be the Primary Key fields which overlap.
Please can someone tell me if I am making a fundemental error here or is this just a necessary evil of linking combo boxes.
