Hello,

I've built a database to track individuals but also to try and make reports faster. I'm pulling data from Access to fill in fields in a common template and then writing the body of the report. The problem comes when i then save the document and email it to my administrator. She must be able to view and alter the document if need. Being that she has no access to my database, this is proving impossible. Is there a way to pull data from Access, insert into this template, and then "disconnect" from teh datasource so that it "becomes" just another Word document???

I'm working with 97- Word and Access

Thanks so much,

I have had pretty good success with merging and printing word documents from Access, but never tried to save it as I could always remerge the document if required. I am applying the principles of "don't save a calculated value" so to speak. But I am sure that you could save the document as a "New Word Document", but I am not quite sure how. I think it would be something like changing the code from acprint to acsave after the merge, but I have to admit I don't know for sure. I think that I am going to try to figure it out.

Just as a side note...if your boss alters the document after you send it to her, how is this reflected in your database, now that the data in the word document is changed?

I think that you should post your question along with your code in the VBA/Code section and look for some help there...I will be sure to follow the thread though as this could have some good value in the future!

Thanks

I appreciate your advice.

Your point regarding my boss' changes being reflected in the database source is very important. I think i will end up forgoing this line of pursuit and simply construct a report. I'm going to mount the database on our "shared files" (we're on a LAN) and make the database secure and user friendly. That way, i'll simply teach her to use the forms.

but i'm stillinterestedin figuring this out.
