I' not sure Mexico has the resources to go to war with the cartels. Plus, many everyday people make a living from the working for the cartels, and they spend a lot of money locally.
So, you think the cartels should not be wiped out? Interesting position. Mexico is between a rock and a hard place. Their citizens are abused by the cartels/ For years, that was one of the major reasons for Mexicans invading the US illegally. If people work for the cartels, it is because they have no alternative so are you espousing slavery? Most of the police are corrupt because otherwise the cartels would assassinate them and their families. What are they to do when their own government can't/won't stand behind them? We would be happy to help them but that is a very slippery slope. How can we conduct military operations inside of Mexico? The government would have to go all in on the idea and commit their own military to the task as well so that it doesn't come as an invasion. Then, what happens? How do you fix the police who have been corrupted for a couple of generations at least? Because, until you can get them back on tract and honest, the situation will probably just devolve into chaos. I'm pretty sure that more than one of Mexico's recent Presidents have been on the take.
I don't think we've ever employed armed guards at the border who were empowered to shoot on sight. We could do that. "Migrants" would soon stop coming so we'd have a fair assurance that the people who are crossing illegally are actually bad guys and I really don't care if they don't get due process. We give them fair warning. Post lots of signs and our citizens would also be aware of the situation and so take care if they have to go into the danger zone to prevent being taken for a smuggler.
This is a reasonably well written article, I have to painfully admit - over there at MSNBC.
It is so unlike them to be even remotely rational in their attacks on Trump. Too bad they've already totally blown their credibility.
As the Executive, the President, must have discretion on how/when money gets spent. Currently, much of it is totally wasted due to no oversight. Congress allocates monies at a gross level and can't be bothered with details but the wastage is in the details. That is part of what Trump is trying to control. For many departments, they essentially get a slush fund that they spend at their own discretion. Should they be allowed to spend it to interfere with official government policy? One big example is the funding of NGO's. We have laws that prevent illegal immigration. Why are we funding NGO's that teach people how to circumvent our law and come into the country illegally? They even go so far as to provide physical assistance with the process.
And then we have the problem of the last administration literally emptying their bank accounts in an attempt to just dump the money somewhere, anywhere to keep Trump from using it for his own programs. That is your money people. Billions were wasted in the last weeks of the Biden administration so they could have empty accounts when Trump took office. They spent it to buy tons of ice cream which is sitting outside their office waiting for spring to melt it and they'll just throw it away. But they won because Trump couldn't spend any of the money on meaningful (to conservatives) things.
