In following the links for Star Trek: Discovery, I ran across the video below. It is quite educational. It is also adds a lot of perspective as the philosophical underpinnings of Star Trek was something that I never considered when watching Star Trek. Just watched the various Star Trek shows for enjoyment, didn't think about them much.
In this, the first in a four-part critique of Star Trek Picard, we delve into the philosophy that underpinned the series. We explore the philosophical and ethical basis of Old Trek, especially The Next Generation, and compare it with the philosophical and ethical basis of NuTrek, which has sought to infect the ideals of Star Trek with the worst aspects of contemporary politics; the anger, the bitterness, the resentment.

The philosophical monologue begins at the approximate 10 minute mark.
