Unable to Format Cells

What could I have done to stop me from being able to format some cells on a worrksheet.

If I right click in some of the cells on the worksheet and click format, nothing happens. If I drag an adjacent cell over the cell that I previously could not format, then I am then able to format that cell.

Is there something in options that I may have unchecked that would stop the ability to format some cells.

It has probably been conditionally formatted - that takes precedence over the the formatting you are trying to add.

I agree with qafselfs suggestion to check Conditional Format

In general a good sanity check of strange worksheet behaviour is to copy it & Paste Special/Values into new workbook.
