Hi All,

I have what I'm hoping is a simple update query...just can't get my head round it (might need some coding)

Table 1
ID..........Description

A...........Tools
B...........
C...........
D...........

Table 2
Description Requests

Tools
Accessories
Kits

This is an exercise to assign new ID's from a set list (auto-number will not suffice)

Table 2 is some new requests for ID's...the first item already exist so I will ignore this (I know how to do that)...the trick is regarding the 2 new items (Accessories, Kits) I want to update Table 1 with these so it will now read...

Table 1
ID..........Description

A...........Tools
B...........Accessories
C...........Kits
D...........

But for the life of me I can't work out how to just upadte the next available cells.

Any help appreciated

Many Thanks
Paul

OK, Slight update

I'm pretty sure the way I need to do this is to look up the FIRST new description and update to the FIRST available ID...this I can do...

What I need is a looped IF statement that does something similar to the below (please not this is not my attempt at VBA...just a layman's grasp of the principles...)

If "qryUpdateID" recordcount > 0 Then

docmd.runQuery "qryUpdateID"

Else EndIF

Loop

_______

As I said the above is the general principle, not the code I plan on using...all of this will run off a button click

Many thanks
