Update data

Hi everyone
I'm new in this great forum
I need to update my data using form by write item code in search text box
then find the item then make update on data after that i need to save the item data with new code for example if the item code is 1 (coding by auto number field) , i want to save the item with code 2 ( by auto number field also) after update data or change data

How can i do that"
can any body help

Leave the auto number Field alone. Create separate field for your ID.

@Uncle Gizmo , thanks but after i separate the ID how i can update that Data by append query or update query

Firstly thank u for the information
Secondly i try dmax but i need your help to adjust the item with new id because when i use dmax all column return to Max ID+1 as example all records become 9
