Using an ampersand (&) in a label box

Whenever I use the & (ampersand) character in a label box, Access changes it to a _ (underscore) by default.

Is there any way of rectifying this?

To use the ampersand as a character the way you describe, you type two ampersands in succession:

Label you wish to appear:
Cars & Trucks

Type in the label caption as:
Cars && Trucks
