Hi,
When I use the Beep function in Access, I get no sound. Why? I can go to Control Panel "Sounds and Audio devices" and play sounds and hear them fine. So I assume that the particular sound that Access wants to use must be turned off?? I thought it would be "default beep" but that's turned on. Anyone know which sound name it is that Access uses for the beep function?

Running Access 2002 on WIndows XP.
Thanks

The beep function actually uses the system beep which comes through the internal PC Speaker and not normally through your external speakers. That means that you need to have the PC speaker enabled in the volume control as well.

I don't have any external speakers. If what you mean by external speakers is separate pieces of hardware that plug into my laptop. All I have is the laptop itself. And as I said, it is audible when i go to "sounds and audio devices".

I can't find any such thing as "volume control" setting on the laptop, other than hardware buttons for volume and mute. I've played with both of them and they make no difference. What am I missing?

Not all computers or laptops are the same and it depends on your sound card, but on mine I select:

And then I use the outlined area:

Yeah, I have that on my desktop PC. But not on my laptop.

Thanks, that works. And, now, suddenly, the beep function starts working too. It does use windows "default beep" setting. The only thing I can figure out is maybe I didn't click "apply" in "sounds and audio devices".

Glad to hear that you have some options to use and that you have it working :)
