And your preferred option would have been????? Send japan a thank you note for Pearl Harbour.

If Japan had taken over Australia and you were all speaking Japanese as you say - maybe Australia could have been one of the industrial giants of the late 20th century instead of being known as the slobbish lager swilling BBQ capital of the world.

I spent 3 years in Sydney in the 70's - it was ok but very Americanised. Adverts on TV every 5 minutes, fast food, big cars. I got the impression the Aussies were desperately trying to be American and failing spectaculary.

Interestingly Hazel and I thought Australia was a pale imitation of America in many ways, and we prefered the original.

Much prefer that than being a jap

You wouldn't be Japanese, you would still be an Aussie. But the country would be much more a bigger player in the world stage.

Since the bomb was dropped almost at the end of the war I'll ask you again

I seem to remember you fully supporting the attacks on previous threads have you changed your mind?

I'm asking the original poster for his opinion, bit pointless really, we already know he looks on the Japanese as nothing more than shit. No wonder he's a Bush supporter:rolleyes:

I don't know whether it was a revenge attack, but whatever, it did the trick.

What would have been your preferred option?

Whatever my views are on bringing the war to a speedier end I don't bloody gloat on it or look down on the Japanese. The war ended over 60yrs ago, get over it:mad:

The Germans actually did get their wish to run Europe. They do this now via the EU. A much better and more subtle way to control things.

Perhaps the USA could learn from this subtle approach - oh sorry, the USA doesn't do subtle.

The impression I got of the Japanese I met and observed there was that they were polite, helpful, sober and hardworking, definitely wouldn't suite an Aussie.;):D

Which is the only country that's ever used nuclear weapons in anger?

Who said in Anger?
It was strategic.

besides, someone had to do it, or how we would no not too in the future?

I am sure (but can't think of any off the top of me head) the English had a few firsts that in hind sight may not be "up to snuff".

I would guess it is like being rich or a celebrity (not from any first hand knowledge, believe me), you are just the target.

SO?
Everyone in North America, Central America, South America and Australia would be speaking indigenous languages... if it wasnt for England Spain or Portugal... time marches on, things change and currently America is the target of random complaints... perhaps in a decade or so it will be someone elses turn to be dispised...

I am thinking China.
Not that I have any animosity towards the Chinese people or the country, but the current government does have some 'shall we say' STRICT governing standards.
